Traffic Engineer

KLD Engineering, D.P.C. seeks a Traffic Engineer in Islandia, NY.

As a Traffic Engineer at KLD, you’ll contribute to marquee projects for national and international clients while growing your skills alongside a collaborative, mentorship-driven team, with a defined path for advancement at every experience level.

Duties

  • Perform traffic engineering design and analysis, including impact studies, corridor studies, and ITS design.
  • Design traffic signal phase timings and re-timing.
  • Coordinate, optimize, and measure effectiveness in a traffic corridor to achieve maximum throughput, minimum delay, and required safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Model and simulate transportation problems using computer models, investigate the cause, and recommend solutions.
  • Forecast the impact of new developments and evaluate schemes and strategies to manage traffic flow patterns.
  • Perform operational analysis of design alternatives for surface streets, bridges, and tunnels.
  • Design advanced traffic management systems, including Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and integrated corridor management.
  • Perform traffic modeling using Synchro, Aimsun, Vissim, TransModeler, and Tru Traffic.
  • Perform data collection, analysis, and interpretation, traffic modeling, and conduct surveys and inspections.
  • Use GIS models and Python scripting to analyze and interpret large datasets.
  • Collect and extract data using GPS-enabled video cameras, Miovision cameras, GPS trackers, NYC DOT Traffic Information Management Systems, and TRANSCOM data fusion and exchange tools.
  • Full-time, 40 hours/week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Master’s degree in Transportation or Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Experience with traffic modeling software such as Synchro, Aimsun, Vissim, TransModeler, or Tru Traffic.
  • Experience with operational analysis, traffic engineering design, data collection, and capacity analysis.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills; familiarity with data analytics tools and AI / large language models (LLMs) is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license (required for field surveys).
  • Occasional domestic travel (approximately 10% of the time).
  • Hybrid schedule; telecommuting permitted.
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Compensation

Starting salary is based on experience and credentials.
